The Air Force 1 has been around long enough that finding a different way to approach it isn't easy. NIGO and j-hope give the familiar silhouette a playful personality without changing what makes it recognizable.
A Little Nostalgia, a Lot of Personality
The collaboration draws on the Tokyo streetwear culture of the early 1990s. Glossy Burnt Sunrise and Metallic Gold leather covers the upper, joined by bright Chlorine Blue accents. Squirrel graphics at the heel and sockliner are a personal touch linked to j-hope’s energetic creative style, while the distinctive laces add another point of interest.
Two Creative Worlds
NIGO’s influence on Japanese streetwear has connected music, fashion and sneakers for decades. Joining forces with BTS member j-hope brings that long-running conversation to a new audience. The project also continues NIGO’s Air Force 1 World Tour, which uses the early-2000s AF1 as its starting point.
Shervarino Take
I appreciate that the shoe still looks unmistakably like an Air Force 1. The colors, glossy materials and small graphics give it a different feel without trying to rebuild the silhouette. The squirrel detail is particularly fun, and the story of the two collaborators makes this more than a straightforward color update.
